Time goes back to the year 1940, which is the conflict between the Caucasian and the Black people in the United States. Caucasians think that they take more priority than black people, because they are the native people, instead of people from the far continent. That is also the reason they view things with their narrow horizon.
Most American Africans think that people with a pair of blue eyes, yellow hair, and pink skin are the first impression when it refers to the common standard of beauty. As we know that most of dolls which have foreign appearance are like Caucasian. However, we can see that one of the protagonist “Claudia”, whose opinions are totally opposite to the ideas of general American Africans. We almost can say she hates the dolls. We can see the paragraphs in the story, she says” I was physically revolted by and secretly frightened of those round moronic eyes, the pancake face, and orange-worms hair.”, and “ Break off the tiny fingers, bend the flat feet, loosen the hair, twist the head around......”. All these sentences can represent how Claudia hates the dolls, which have the qualities of Caucasian, and it’s really different from the American Africans.
The crucial power that helps consolidate this standard is because of their population and status. In the story, Claudia says “Being a minority in both caste and class, we moved about anyway on the hem of life…… ” Because they are the minor in the gigantic Caucasian society, they will be isolated by almost all the native Caucasian people there. When people are trying to convince others standards which are also related to the races, then most people will choose to stand with their nation, instead of considering the standards if they are appropriate or not. And it’s also kind of strength which can turn the right into wrong, and upside down the wrong into right. That’s why the black people have to live under the Caucasian’s control, because of the different population and status.
In that generation, black people almost are under the Caucasian’s control, and the Caucasians also have more priorities than black people.
